Tuition fees
The support available is a loan to help you pay all or some of your tuition fees up to a maximum of £3,400 if you are studying full-time and £1,700 if you are studying part-time. There is no help towards your living costs.
We will not give you a loan to pay your fees if you have done a course of postgraduate study before and received support from UK or other EU public funds to do it or if you have to repeat your course. However, we can make an exception if you have to retrain or repeat a course of study because of medical or compassionate reasons. If this applies to you contact us for advice.
Students who choose to take out a loan to pay all or some of their fees, will do so on the same terms as a student loan for living costs. Because the amount of the monthly repayment depends on the level of your income rather than the size of the loan you have borrowed, the monthly repayment will not increase as a result of taking out a loan to pay your fees as well as a loan for your living costs.
Your institution may charge fees that are different from the standard rate. If you are not eligible to apply for a loan to pay your fees or you do not apply by the closing dates (30 June 2012 for courses outside Scotland and 31 March 2013 for courses in Scotland), you will have to pay your own fees.
If you withdraw from your course, you may not be eligible for a loan to pay your fees. However, your institution may still charge you fees for time you have been on the course.
Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA)
There is also extra help available through supplementary grants for those who have extra costs because they have a disability.
