NHS Biomedical Science Bursary

Biomedical Science

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the Scottish Government Health Directorate brought in a new Bursary Scheme in 2007-08 for students on the placement year of a degree course in Biomedical Science at participating universities.

This bursary has now stopped for all new students. Continuing students should read the relevant information below.

From session 2007-2008 a £2000 bursary has been available to eligible students studying the BSc Applied Biomedical Science degree at the University of Abertay, Robert Gordon University, Glasgow Caledonian University and the University Of The West of Scotland during the placement years.  The placement years are normally years three and four (years two and three for Robert Gordon University).

The last intake of students who are eligible for the bursary are students who began their degree in 2009-2010. These students will receive their bursary in their placement years in 2011-2012 and 2012-2013 (2010-2011 and 2011-2012 for Robert Gordon University students).

SAAS are responsible for administering this scheme which will be separate to any funding we currently provide to Scottish domiciled students.  There is a limit to the number of bursaries available and successful students must be on a placement, be nominated for a bursary by their university and intend working for NHS Scotland after graduating.

Students will have to repay the entire bursary for that year if they withdraw from their course during the placement year.

Application forms are only available from the faculty at each university.

For more information, see our Biomedical Science bursary, questions and answers.
